Welcome to our garden! I’m thrilled to share the first steps of our gardening journey with you. Taylor and I decided to start this gardening adventure to bring a touch of nature into our daily lives and enjoy the countless benefits it offers. Gardening has always intrigued us, and we’re excited to learn and grow together.
Growing up, I spent many hours with my grandparents, Papa and Granny, who always had a big, productive garden. I have fond memories of helping them string and snap fresh green beans, feeling the connection to the earth and the satisfaction of a hard day’s work. Those moments planted the seeds of a lifelong love for gardening in my heart.
We’re just now buying a new house, and one of the things we’re most excited about is starting our own garden. Although we haven’t started our big garden yet, we’ve done a few smaller trial runs at the places we stayed before this. Those experiences have given us a taste of what’s to come and fueled our desire to dive into gardening more seriously.
This fall and winter, we plan to spend time researching, planning, and preparing our garden space. We’ll be mapping out our garden layout, deciding what to plant, and learning everything we can about gardening in our climate here in sandy coastal North Carolina. Our goal is to be ready to plant by next spring.
Our desire to be somewhat self-sustaining and know where our food comes from plays a big role in our decision to start gardening. There’s something incredibly satisfying about harvesting and eating produce that we’ve grown ourselves. It gives us a sense of accomplishment and peace of mind, knowing exactly what goes into our food.
Of course, we anticipate facing our fair share of challenges. From pesky pests to unpredictable weather, we know there will be moments of frustration. But we’re ready to learn valuable lessons and find joy in the small victories, like seeing our first seedlings sprout.
Looking ahead, we have big plans for our garden. We hope to expand our plant varieties and try our hand at composting. We’re excited to share our progress and tips with you along the way.
Gardening has been more than just a future hobby for us. It represents a way to connect with nature and each other, and it reminds us of God’s creation and the beauty that comes from nurturing life. We see it as our way to steward the land well, as God intended, taking care of His creation and reaping the blessings it provides.
We’d love to hear about your gardening experiences! What was the first thing you planted in your garden? Do you have any favorite tips or tricks to share? Let’s grow together and create a thriving gardening community.
Thank you for joining us on this journey. We’re excited to share more about our garden and hope to inspire you to start your own. Happy gardening!
